Define the duty before selecting nylon
Speed, torque, shock loading, temperature and humidity shape the material decision. Chemical compatibility depends on the exact medium, concentration and exposure conditions. A general description such as “corrosion resistant” is not enough to confirm suitability.

Review geometry and mating features
SLS allows gear geometry and supporting features to be developed without dedicated mould tooling. Tooth accuracy, surface texture, bore fit and the mating gear still need individual review. Reinforced grades may change stiffness and wear behaviour; they are not automatically the best choice.
Test under representative conditions
Use agreed checks for wear, backlash, dimensional change and service life. Monitor the real operating environment and inspect the component after testing. Any coating, sealing or secondary machining should be specified and validated as part of the complete manufacturing route.
What to provide for a gear review
- 3D CAD, tooth geometry and shaft-interface drawing
- Torque, speed, duty cycle and mating material
- Chemical exposure, temperature and humidity
- Acceptance criteria and inspection requirements
