Start with the thermal requirement
Metal additive manufacturing offers scope for intricate fins, tailored internal passages and integrated structures. These features can expand the design options for heat-management components. Their actual benefit still depends on heat load, flow conditions, pressure drop and the surrounding system.

Include the finishing and testing
Build orientation, support removal, powder evacuation and access to internal surfaces all deserve attention. Plan machining of sealing faces and connection features where required. Include leak, pressure and thermal testing in the project assessment rather than treating them as optional extras.
Compare lifecycle cost, not a headline saving
Consider development iterations, assembly, tooling, maintenance and replacement alongside production cost. Conventional machining or other established processes may remain the better choice for simpler geometry or larger volumes. Select the route using project-specific evidence, not a universal percentage improvement.
What to define before quotation
